Originally published at Yellow Chimney. Please leave any comments there. Do you ever crave for veggies in winter? I bet not many of you do. No secret we prefer warm and comforting food in cold times. But when it turns to spring we turn to green. To be honest March and even April, though they undoubtedly are spring months are not yet that warm and sunny to make me want salads and fresh fruit. But neither do I want a piece of pulled pork in heavy gravy. In spring I’m looking for some in-between options: green and light enough but warm and nourishing. So this post is about a perfect April bowl of soup. Peas and mint. You surely saw it in menus and probably tried it in some restaurant or cafe. Now it’s time to cook it yourself. It won’t take you more than 15 minutes. Recipe: 400 g frozen peas a small bunch of mint 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp cardamom To garnish: 3 bacon rashers olive oil handful pine nuts some mint leaves plain yoghurt Bring a sauce pan of water to boil. Put mint leaves (from about 5 stalks) in and allow to simmer couple of minutes. Add the peas, salt and cardamom and cook about 5 minutes till the pea is soft but yet didn’t lose the bright green colour. Separate peas and water using a sieve. Put the peas and leaves into a jug of blender, pour in 400 ml of peas “stock” and pulse for a minute. Use any of the garnish you like to serve it. It’s nice you can make it a vegetarian or add some bacon for more substantial lunch. Enjoy!

My Easter bunny loves playing hide-n-seek with kids. He leaves some foot prints here and there to lead my youngsters to their chocolate treat. Then we continue with some Russian traditional foods like Easter bread (I’ll post the recipe a little later before the Orthodox Easter which is 1 May this year). And I also make some special deserts that will look interesting for children. I can tell you, it’s so easy here in UK, where there are very clear and pretty symbols connected to Easter, comparing to Russia, where the only symbol will be the Holly Cross. I love those bunnies, chicks, sheep and pastel colours and flowers and eggs and birdies. So this year we made some nest with chocolate eggs – so bright and shiny! Read the rest of this entry »

Несмотря на то, что за окном мерзопакостная осень вместо улыбчивой и солнечной весны, я хочу с вами поделиться замечательной новостью - Открытие челлендж-блога "Challenge for Clay" и посвящен он лепке из полимерной глины. Для всех кто хотел и не мог решиться, для всех тех, кто хотел и решился, для всех тех, кто еще пока не хочет, но обязательно решится! Девочки, для всех нас!!! I won’t lie that I cooked that, my husband did. He is way to stronger with meat than I am. Especially with lamb. He can make it nicely brown and full of flavour. Fruits and veggies, of course, some berries, honey, nuts and – kings of foraging – mushrooms. Girolles are my personal favourite among mushrooms. They are dense, clean, a little sweet and look very vivid and colourful on the plate. When I happen to get a bag of girolles, my first desire is to make Russian style fried potatoes with mushrooms.
