My Easter bunny loves playing hide-n-seek with kids. He leaves some foot prints here and there to lead my youngsters to their chocolate treat. Then we continue with some Russian traditional foods like Easter bread (I’ll post the recipe a little later before the Orthodox Easter which is 1 May this year). And I also make some special deserts that will look interesting for children. I can tell you, it’s so easy here in UK, where there are very clear and pretty symbols connected to Easter, comparing to Russia, where the only symbol will be the Holly Cross. I love those bunnies, chicks, sheep and pastel colours and flowers and eggs and birdies. So this year we made some nest with chocolate eggs – so bright and shiny! Read the rest of this entry »

I was told that when I was a little girl, and every year I discover new meaning in this phrase and find new proofs to it. Celebration is the awaiting of celebration. It is the preparing, the invites you sign, the cards you send to your friends, it is choosing gifts and menu, working over decoration – all that makes your heart leap, smile cross your face and improves your mood. Every year I feel it more and more clearly that anticipation is a part of celebration and feel joy just preparing to celebrate. And every year I begin to prepare a little earlier than last year ’cause it prolongs the festive feeling. Now when Halloween is not yet here, I check Christmas catalogues and look through the photos of previous years celebrating. And I just thought it might be interesting to you to look at our last year Christmas table setting and borrow couple of ideas maybe. These are two options we used. As a huge fan of all yeast dough goodies I couldn’t miss the opportunity to make these for Easter. That’s interesting how in different cultures Christians have the same understanding of what makes bread festive. Greek Tzureki, Italian Pannetone, Russian Kulich, British Hot Cross Buns – all have it in common. Spices. And orange zest. And raisins. I cooked Kulich dozens of times, and Tzureki, and Pannetone as well, but it’s my first time with British Easter bread. I always wondered how the crosses on top are made. Is it white chocolate? Do they bake the buns first and add the crosses at the end? Ha ha, now I know how it’s done. And I was surprised how easy the method is. Even though I’m not an experienced hot cross bun baker I couldn’t have settled with some classic taste and recipe. So here are my Easter buns with chocolate and prunes. Я взялась за альтер-бук, чтобы сделать необычный подарок своему другу - книгу-объект для визуализации его мечты, связанной с кино. I made altered book for my friend as an object to visualize his dreams about movies. Вы можете просто сделать какую-то интересную инсталляцию или даже шкатулку (в последнем случае придется работать намного аккуратнее). You can just do some interesting installation or even a box (in this case you need to work much neater). Книгу я тоже взяла непростую. Но, наверное, стоит выбирать то, что не жалко. Ну, и немаловажным фактором является твердая обложка. I also picked up a very special book for this project. But, probably, you should choose something that does not feel sorry for. And a very important factor is the hard cover. Для начала стоит разметить, что именно и где вы будете вырезать. Если только квадрат, то это просто. Но советую отступать от краев подальше. First you need to mark where you will cut. If you'll make only a square, then it is easy. But my advise: retreat away from the edges. Если альтер-бук будет "многоуровневый" (как у меня), то в самом начале просто прикиньте, какие уровни у вас будут и где. И только на середине пути можно начинать их вырезать. If an altered book will be "stacked", then you should think at the very beginning what levels you will make and where. And in the middle of process you can begin to cut. Сразу скажу, процесс не быстрый. По-моему, у меня на это ушел час. И вот сырая заготовка: I need to say that the process is not fast. I was doing it about an hour: Следующий шаг: проклеивание всех краев клеем. И внутри, и снаружи. Повторюсь, если вы собираетесь делать шкатулку, то работать надо намного аккуратней, чем я, так как я изначально за этим не следила - формат работы позволял. После этого я все равно все покрывала белой акриловой краской. Next step: glue all the edges. Both inside and outside. Finally, decorate. . . В оформлении обложки и внутри альтер-бука я в основном использовала акриловую краску и спреи. Ну, и конечно же, бумагу про кино от моей любимой "Графики" и совершенно замечательный маленький чипборд "Кино". In the design of the cover and inside the altered book, I mostly use acrylic paints and sprays. Well, of course, the Graphic45 paper about movie and quite a nice little chipboard "Cinema". Чипборд я тоже покрывала акриловой краской и сбрызгивала голубым спреем, чтобы он не смотрелся белым пятном. Собственно, вот и все. Chipboard I also covered with acrylic paint and sprinkled with blue spray. Actually, that's all.

Портреты собак, ожидающих своих хозяев в машинах, проект Мартина Усборна (Martin Usborn) ABOUT THESE IMAGES: I was once left in a car at a young age. I don't know when or where or for how long, possibly at the age of four, perhaps outside Tesco's, probably for fifteen minutes only. The details don't matter. The point is that I wondered if anyone would come back. It seems trivial now but in a child's mind it is possible to be alone forever. Around the same age I began to feel a deep affinity with animals - in particular their plight at the hands of humans. I remember watching TV and seeing footage of a dog being put in a plastic bag and being kicked. What appalled me most was that the dog could not speak back. It's muteness terrified me. I should say that I was a well-loved child and never abandoned and yet it is clear that both these experiences arose from the same place deep inside me: a fear of being alone and unheard. Perhaps this is a fear we all share at some level, I am not sure. The images in this series explore that feeling, both in relation to myself and to animals in general. The camera is the perfect tool for capturing a sense of silence and longing: the shutter freezes the subject for ever and two layers of glass are placed between the viewer and the viewed: the glass of the lens, the glass of the picture frame and, in this instance, the glass of the car window further isolates the animal. The dog is truly trapped. When I started this project I knew the photos would be dark. What I didn't expect was to see so many subtle reactions by the dogs: some sad, some expectant, some angry, some dejected. It was as if upon opening up a box of grey-coloured pencils I was surprised to see so many shades inside. I hope that these pictures are engaging and perhaps a little amusing. I want to show that there is life in the dark places within us. I will stop writing now and you can stop reading. Words can only get us so far. After all, we are all animals. Martin, Sept 2010

Всем привет! Дублирую мастер-класс для Sodalicious Спасибо Ире за перевод)))) Ира, ты моя спасительница!!! Немного добавлю по-русски, а так я думаю все понятно)) step. 1 Take a your favorite sketchbooks. Also I will use the pattern of mini-set paper "who lives here", magazine clippings, a pencil, stamps and some decorations. Сектчбуки от Соды очень классные с плотной бумагой, единственный момент: надо следить за тем, чтобы в середине не скапливалось много влаги, иначе разворот "выпрыгнет" из скрепок))) step. 2 I cover page with using a gesso for better adhesion between the layers. Гессо я использую не всегда особенно если пользуюсь акварелью. А если я планирую сделать многослойную композицию, то грунт обязательно нужен. Он скрепит слои и уплотнит бумагу. step. 3 Draw a pencil flowers on a photo. I did not have the goal to make an exact copy, I would only use a texture of pencil drawing. Здесь мне захотелось поиграть с фактурами и я решила порисовать простым карандашом, особо не старалась реалистично это сделать, так как не знала насколько потом перекрою карандаш другими слоями. step. 4 Add some color with acrylic paints. Немного мазков акрилом. step. 5 Cut the some of the paper and stick over the picture. I mix texture: pencil + pattern Здорово подошла бумага из вот этого мини-набора, по размеру паттерна особенно. step. 6 Use stamps. I like to do this is unusual, for example, to make a print incompletely or wipe by the stamp in some places as if to slide on ice like here. Здесь я как бы "скользила" штампиком, это очень удобно делать именно по грунтованной бумаге. step. 7 Now I stuck magazine clippings. Sometimes I draw itself and in this case I came across an interesting picture of a female head and I decided to use it. Вырезки из журналов, удачно попалась иллюстрация. step. 8 I use a labels from the sheet "so delicious notes / i eat cookies in bed". Текст дает смысловую нагрузку для картинки, но не всегда нужен смысл какой-то вообще, в арт-журналах можно все!!! step. 9 I add more details, write a markers by hand, the meaning of the text does not necessarily have to be. Для детализации пишу от руки надписи маркером. step. 10 A little more texture, add a plywood chipboard. Check the composition, if necessary I add a splash of paints and ink. Добавляю подтеки тушью, где-то замазываю краской чтобы объединить весь разворот и еще пару чипбордов добавляю для смешивания текстур опять же. Все готово!!! Спасибо за внимание! Done! Ретаблос- это небольшие картинки с текстом- благдарностью святому, который помог в какой-то проблеме, болезни или трудной ситуцации. Мы с мужем просто плакали от смеха, когда их читали. Но самое поразительное-что авторы -то не стебутся, а на полном серьезе благодарят- причем за такие события, которые и в голове-то не укладываются. Попадаются благодарности не только 40-50-60-х годов прошлого века, но и современные. Последняя дата, которую я нашла, была 2006 год. В общем, читать всем! Однажды ночью мне пришлось разбить лагерь в горах. В свете луны я увидел ведьм, летящих по направлению в Веракрус. Я благодарю Наисвятейшее Таинство за то, что ведьмы меня не заметили, не сглазили и не напустили на меня какие-либо другие ужасные чары. Какие-то красные дьяволята ради забавы досаждали моим котам. Я благодарю Святое Таинство за то, что оно заколдовало мою метлу, и я смогла вымести этих монстров и избавить моих несчастных котов от страданий Моя жена очень любила есть в постели. Она постоянно грызла сухари, что меня крайне раздражало, т. к. я был на диете и кроме того, из-за хруста я не мог ни спать, ни смотреть телевизор. Я благодарю Пресвятую Деву Сан-Хуанскую за то, что она послала в нашу спальню целую армию муравьев, учуявших еду, и с тех пор моя жена перестала есть в постели. Мой муж принес в дом русалку. Я очень ревновала, так как он совершенно перестал обращать на меня внимание. Однажды мой муж ушел на работу, а русалка спала в своем пруду. Я выловила ее сетью и выбросила в море. Я благодарю Святую Деву за то, что мой муж снова стал уделять мне внимание. Я благодарю Святого Исидро за то, что он подарил мне возможность увидеть, как крокодил спугнул купающихся в реке сестер Мендес, и эти три грации выбежали из воды абсолютно обнаженные. Это теплое воспоминание будет согревать меня холодными одинокими ночами на протяжении всего длинного пути под названием «жизнь». После долгих лет наших отношений Иделиадоро наконец-то предложил мне выйти за него ззмуж, но в день свадьбы он взял и передумал. И только Дева Мария мне подсказала о его бегстве, поэтому я смогла побежать и вернуть его обратно в церковь, и потом мы поженились и теперь живем счастливо. Леонорильда Перес пошла к гадалке, и та сказала ей, что мужчина преподнесет ей сюрприз. Этим сюрпризом оказалась гонорея, и только Пресвятая Дева Гваделупская была в силах излечить ее. Леонорильда Перес очень за это благодарна. После нескольких эпизодов лихорадки с высоченной температурой у моего мужа поехала крыша. Он чувствовал себя супергероем из комиксов и собирался лететь спасать человечество. Испугавшись, что он убьётся, я стала молиться святому Петру. Святой мученик, покровитель сумасшедших, спасибо тебе за то, что ты вернул мужу рассудок и мне больше не приходится носиться за ним по чердакам, чтобы не дать улететь. Хотя по ночам, когда он в особо нежном настроении, ему до сих пор нравится переодеваться в супергероя За перевод мои благодарности donnafugata Петронила Родригес любила заигрывать со своими соседями, и однажды один из них, крепко выпив, пробрался к ней в постель. Она воздает благодарность за то, что смогла спастись и обещает Святому Мартину не быть впредь такой кокеткой(!) Рубен Лопес упражнялся с луком и стрелами, когда случайно подстрелил свою тещу. Он благодарит Святого Херонимо за то, что теща не умерла. Леонардо Гутиэррэс пел на балу у лидера профсоюза и влюбился в девушку, которая оказалась любовницей большого босса. Он благодарит Святую Сесилию за то, что его не убили, а только сломали обе ноги, и девушка осталась с ним. Я очень вспыльчивая, часто кричу и спорю. Это сказывалось и на муже, и поэтому мой брак оказался под угрозой. Благодарю Святую Деву Сапопанскую, которая надоумила меня усмирять гнев при помощи вязальных спиц. Теперь, когда я чувствую, что злюсь, то беру пряжу и начинаю яросто вязать. Я уже связала свитера и шарфы для всей семьи, для кошек и собак, и я продолжаю вязать и ткать. Благодаря этому я могу быть почти всегда нежна с мужем и семьёй.
